At Heron House we are long standing supporters of good causes. In particular we have links with the MicroLoan Foundation, SLS Charity for the Homeless and The Alf Dubs Children’s Fund.
The MicroLoan Foundation recycles money by making funds available for women in Africa. This provides them with the opportunity to start up micro-businesses which allow them to look after their own families. The loans are then paid back so the money can be re-used in the same way by others in need. Given our focus on delivering great value, we feel this approach is brilliant.
SLS Charity for the Homeless was formed 3 years ago when our colleague, Cath Carey, volunteered to make up sandwich packs for the homeless, in and around Newport and Bristol. Now having nearly 3000 members, they also help to provide foodstuffs, camping resources, street clothing and toiletries for the homeless across South Wales and Bristol all year round. They also support day and night shelters and help around 40 day centres, hostels, outreach teams such as Llamau, Next Link safe houses, Cyfannol Women’s Aid and social service teams.
A dear friend of ours, Lord Alf Dubs, has been instrumental in setting up an amazing new fund called The Alf Dubs Children’s Fund. It is aimed at transforming the lives of refugee and orphaned children and we are happy to help him further his tireless work in helping abandoned children in the world.
We are also Corporate Partners with the Gwent Wildlife Trust. Our on-going contribution gives them the flexibility to act in the best interests of the wildlife of Gwent and helps to support them care for our reserves, campaign against damaging developments, survey for rare and endangered species, and educate children and adults alike about the wildlife of Gwent.
We also continue to sponsor local events and clubs annually such as the Usk Agricultural Show, Monmouth Horse Trials and Usk Juniors RFC. We are happy to generously support our clients who throw themselves out of planes, climb mountains or anything to raise money for causes close to their hearts.
Some of our clients are very active in their support of charities and we are happy to assist in assessing which charities can best meet a client’s needs and use funds effectively both during your lifetime and via bequests in wills. Where large lifetime gifts are intended a charitable foundation or trusts may be useful. We are also happy to discuss the benefits of tax relief that apply depending on the chosen route and how this fits in with your estate planning.
